Silverbeet – Bunch
Selection: Silverbeet has large, thick, dark green leaves and prominent, fleshy stalks that are typically white.
Preparation: This versatile vegetable can be used in a variety of dishes. The leaves can be sautéed, steamed, or added to soups and stews, while the stalks can be cooked similarly to asparagus or celery. Silverbeet is also great in salads, quiches, and as a side dish.
Good for you: Silverbeet is a nutritional powerhouse, rich in vitamins A, C, and K, as well as minerals like magnesium, potassium, and iron. It is also high in dietary fiber and antioxidants, making it a healthy addition to your diet.
And tastes so good: The leaves have a slightly bitter, earthy flavor, while the stalks are crunchy and mildly sweet. The flavor is stronger than spinach but can be mellowed by cooking.
It is similar to spinach but has a stronger flavour. Silverbeet usually has a white stalk, however, red beet is sometimes available; it has the same green leaves but has a rich pink-red stem and veins. Silverbeet grows all year round and is easy to cultivate.
